As a social scientist, I see a clear trend: we are more disconnected from one another than ever before.
Families are smaller, often spread across distances. We report fewer close friendships, spend less time with others, and participate in fewer social activities. At the same time, we remain hyper-connected online—scrolling, sharing, and engaging with curated versions of ourselves. It’s no surprise loneliness is on the rise across all age groups.
Kythe was born from a deep desire to help people reconnect with those who matter most. This isn’t just a response to societal trends—it’s personal. I feel the distance between my young nieces and me, the logistical nature of texts with my parents, the strain of my schedule, and my kids’ limited time with their faraway grandparents.
Kythe may not end loneliness and social isolation, but we hope to make a meaningful dent—helping people rediscover the joy of genuine connection.
